Peltier City Selects Their Candidates

A delegate has significant responsibility in selecting who they want to be represented by in a government position. This responsibility can potentially feel overwhelming and time consuming. It took about an hour this Monday as Peltier City selected their candidates for city and state elections at American Legion Buckeye Boys State (ALBBS).

Both the Federalist and Nationalist parties nominated and voted on their candidates for the General Assembly, mayor, city treasurer, city auditor, city director of law, city council, and the school board. Both parties were informed that if they left a spot empty, it would automatically go to the opposing party.

One such example was when the Nationalists did not have a candidate for the position of city director of law, a position that requires passing the bar exam, and thus it went straight to the Federalist candidate, Hayden Steinbrunner of Peltier City. Some positions, like the five member city council, did not have enough candidates for an election to occur.
Only one Nationalist was voted for a spot on the city council and four Federalists were voted to represent their party on the ballot, potentially creating an advantage for the Peltier City Federalists at the city level as the week went on.

In the Senate race, the Nationalists and Federalists had very similar views. Federalists Logan Krueger and Gavin Clay, both of Peltier, were candidates who say they stand for their respective parties. Nationalists Gavin Fry and Aiden Miller, both of Peltier City, were no different.

“I am open to listening to any of your thoughts and getting it to the state legislatures.”

“I am open to listening to any of your thoughts and getting it to the state legislatures,” Fry said in his short speech during the Meet the Candidates event for the city. Miller promised the same idea of listening to his people and getting their thoughts to the state level.

The three spots on the House of Representatives include Federalists Benjamin Nicoloff, Myles Steenrod, and Grant Anderson, all of Peltier City.

“I want to represent all of you,” stated Anderson in his speech to his city.
The Nationalists consist of Tarun Batchu, Tyler Doeden-Kiessling, and Sean Hoffman, all of Peltier City. The mayoral race was between Federalist David Ellis and Nationalist Gabriel Myers, both of Peltier City, who was unopposed in the nomination process at the caucus prior.

Lastly, the race for city treasurer was between Federalist Beau Weaver, and Nationalist Riley Wenzlick, both of Peltier City, another candidate who was unopposed in the nomination process.

With many electoral races going on, not just this single city but the whole state, one delegate became responsible for a wide array of offices. All of this culminated into putting together this year’s state, county, and city governments at the polls Tuesday morning and evening.

Note: All delegates interviewed for this story reside in Peltier City.
