Chapman City Three-Way Tie Settled by Coin Flip

On Tuesday, the annual elections of American Legion Buckeye Boys State were firing on all cylinders, and a plethora of positions were secured by many of the delegates present. In the House of Representatives, a three-way tie emerged from Chapman City of Koppin County. According to the procedure, any ties in a majority vote must be settled via a coin flip. 

Among the nominees that tied were Nationalists Brady Bland and John “Jack” Bennett, as well as Federalist Robert Hoffman. The three nominees were then summoned for a deciding coin flip, which resulted in the dramatic victories of Bland and Bennett.

In an interview with a Hetuck correspondent, Bland retold the story, beginning with how he had actually been in another tie before the three-way tie. “You don’t want to be the guy who loses two ties in a week,” he stated.

“I was relieved,” he told the press when questioned on how he felt upon finding out that he had won the tiebreaker. “I can probably better serve my people in the House of Representatives,” he said, making light of his previous defeat.

“I am happy that [the tiebreaker] worked out, and that my hard work will go to use in the House of Representatives,” he concluded, proudly accepting his position in the House of Representatives.
