Defeated Candidates Find Success at State Job Fair

On Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM, the State Government Job Fair opened in Farmer Hall to all unemployed Boys Staters, with many of those defeated at elections and rejected from interviews using the event to explore new opportunities for non-elected job positions.

Created to help reduce the unemployment rate further towards 0%, the job fair assigned unfilled appointments and other administrative jobs needed to run the state government smoothly.

With the release of the winners of the 2026 elections announced, many citizens were left without the prospect of any elected position. In fact, according to official ballot results, of the 75 total candidates for state office, 79% were left jobless.

Others seeking employment were rejected from prior interviews for the American Legion Buckeye Boys State Bank, the State Utility Companies, and the State Trooper program, along with other highly selective programs. Another class of Boys Staters was those looking for positions exclusively offered at the fair.

Among those successful in attaining a position, Nicholas Goulait, of Alberts City in Deweese County, shared his experiences. First being rejected from the University President position, he then proceeded to another unsuccessful application, before taking a position as the Director of Operations for the Adjutant General. 

Goulait discussed his job fair experience, lauding the interview system, which, in his words, “helped get everyone to go through with it.” As for his new job, he remains excited, saying, “I think it’s pretty cool that I get to work with some of the military,” and that he was “very interested in the military as a whole.” 

Those unable to be hired in the aftermath of the job fair reported to Unemployment Services, fulfilling an overall 0% Unemployment Rate for American Legion Buckeye Boys State, and complementing the roles of the job fair, which continues to serve as a key gateway to provide crucial opportunities and fuel curiosity for all at Boys State.
