Throughout the week at the American Legion Buckeye Boys State (ALBBS), delegates are being hand-selected for the honor of working with the color guard to carry flags and participate in evening assemblies in front of all other citizens.

For Wednesday’s assembly, Dustin Vasko, a senator from Alberts City, was selected, giving him the privilege to carry the ALBBS flag with the color guard. He was informed of this only the night before. When asked if he was looking forward to representing all his fellow delegates and carrying the flag, Vasko stated, “I’m truly excited, it’s a blessing, I’m very grateful that I was considered by the color guard. It truly is an honor”. He made it very clear that he knew he had a special opportunity that night.

The flag carrying ceremony is a great opportunity for the color guard to choose delegates to work with them and get involved in the assemblies. This boosts morale not only for that specific delegate but for all members of that city or even county, seeing one of themselves represented in front of everyone.
