Monumental First Governor and University President in Pennell Elected

On Tuesday, the American Legion Buckeye Boys State (ALBBS) annual election took place and Pennell City of Koppin County saw two positions filled for their respective first times in the city’s history. Federalists Nicholas Jensvold and Miles Wiegand were elected for the positions of State Governor and University President respectively.

Following a solid performance at Tuesday’s debate, Jensvold secured the win by a landslide, winning 175 votes more than his Nationalist opponent. Wiegand, on the other hand, was among the five delegates to be brought on as a University President for the first time in not just Pennell’s history, but ALBBS’s history as well.

Pennell City was established about three years ago, its namesake being borrowed from William W. Pennell, a past ALBBS President as well as a current Executive Board Member and Assistant in Headquarters. Pennell has been involved in the program for 26 years and counting.

“It’s humbling,” explained Pennell regarding how the accomplishments of Wiegand and Jensvold have made him feel. “Those young men did it…[The delegates] all pulled together as a team to do it.”

“When I come to Boys State it revitalizes me, physically and emotionally, to see the youth of this country and [the bright futures they have,]” he said, clearly proud of all the good that the program has brought to the thousands of delegates that have passed through it during his tenure.

The accomplishments of Pennell city on election night didn’t start and stop at a Governor and University President. Many positions throughout all of the different levels of government were filled, a resounding success for all of those who were involved.
