Konold County Mayor Charged on Five Accounts

On Thursday afternoon at American Legion Buckeye Boys State (ALBBS), a trial began in which a Mayor of a city in Konold County, Brady Lampman, was put on trial for several counts of speeding, fleeing from officers, and one count of distracted driving that had allegedly occurred over several days.

Several officers were called to the scene and later to the witness stand to testify about what they had witnessed over the past few days. All of the officers maintained that they had seen the defendant speeding on the roads and playfully taunting officers when they attempted to pull him over. On these occasions, most officers used their body cameras to photograph or record him.

The evidence collected from the officers’ body cameras was presented to the court and thoroughly examined. The defendant claimed that the photos only showed him standing or walking in place. He attempted to support this argument by drawing attention to the position of his feet and the lean of his body. The court remained skeptical of his claims, especially as more evidence continued to accumulate against him.

The defendant remained steadfast in his assertion that several of the charges had been heavily exaggerated by the ALBBS Highway Patrol. He claimed that he had only approached officers on a few occasions and had merely run in place rather than actually fleeing. He also argued that no officer had verbally instructed him to stop or pull over and provide his badge number.

Regarding the arrest, prosecutors claimed that it took several officers and multiple attempts to prove that they possessed a signed warrant before they were able to arrest him. The mayor was reportedly stubborn, remaining in his room and refusing to provide his badge number until numerous officers had arrived at the scene.

After considering all testimony, evidence, and information presented during the trial, Judge Yahir Portillo, of Dieringer City, found Lampman guilty on two counts of fleeing police and one count of reckless running. Lampman was fined $1,520 and ordered to pay an additional $150 in court fees.
