State Highway Patrol Cadets Honor Those Who Made the Ultimate Sacrifice

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) and American Legion Buckeye Boys State Highway Patrol (BBSHP) held a Memorial Program on Thursday evening for those who have died in the line of duty.

This service commemorated those who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the state they called home. The ceremony was a reminder that their sacrifices would not be forgotten, still a heroic act all these years later.

The significance and poignancy of the tribute were felt by both the Troopers and Cadets of the OSHP and BBSHP. They were friends to many, and their sacrifices helped keep people safe.

The solemn memorial had effects on the cadets as well, however. It created a feeling of reverence and veneration throughout the crowd, one that brought many cadets to understand the sacrifice the men had made, inspiring them. 

Jean Louis Berrios, of Bishop City and a cadet of the BBSHP, said after the memorial, “It’s amazing to know that there’s people like that in this world that are able to give their lives to protect others.”

These men serve as a beacon of hope for many who wish to protect those around them. They inspire those who joined to help their community and their state. 

“I joined the Highway Patrol because I just wanted to be a part of something greater than myself, and ultimately serve the community as a whole,” Cadet Kameron Garza, of Wiehe City, said afterward.

Both OHP and BBSHP are dedicated to remembering the men and women who fought for a cause greater than themselves and made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the people of their communities.
