While delegates at American Legion Buckeye Boys State (ALBBS) are mostly focused on building government and discussing policy, one young man celebrated an important milestone on Tuesday.
Qingxhi P. Tan of Jordan City, better known as P-Tan, celebrated his 18th birthday. The day started early for this special delegate, as when he went to line up for breakfast he was surprised with a singing of “Happy Birthday” by the people of his city. This theme continued throughout the day with high fives, well wishes, and constant birthday shouts.
What made the most impact, though, came during the nightly meeting. Just before heading back to their dorms for the night, the city of Jordan gathered around P-Tan one last time to sing. Forming a circle of brotherhood and love, the city came together to celebrate their own.
Once the singing concluded, P-Tan exclaimed, “Saying ‘I love you guys’ is an understatement,” and continued, “I am so, so, so grateful for every single one of you. Best 18th birthday party ever!”

For P-Tan, his birthday was not marked with a cake, but by brotherhood—the kind that becomes a lifelong memory.
