Politicians Talk about Gambling on both sides of the Money Line

During the state Federalist rally, three of the seven governor and lieutenant governor pairs brought up the idea of legalizing gambling for the delegates as a talking point, despite the fact that the vast majority, if not all of the delegates, are minors and couldn’t legally gamble outside of American Legion Buckeye Boys State (ALBBS).

One delegate running for governor, Vincent Hapner of Wiehe City, stated that the widespread appeals to gambling were “almost too broad,” seeing as how it was brought up in almost half of the gubernatorial campaigns. However, despite how often gambling was referenced, delegates kept their excitement and enthusiasm.

Although many of the candidates’ platforms sparked disagreement, gambling was uniquely popular. Just the mention of gambling would elicit an eruption of cheers from the delegates. To Hapner, this wide support was a positive sign.

“I think that if we are all agreeing on that, that’s a beautiful thing…I’m not surprised, all of us being teenagers,” Hapner said.

The talks of underage gambling spread to the Nationalist Party, as well. Andrew Policastro of Favreau City, a candidate for lieutenant governor, zeroed in on one especially popular form of gambling.

“Yes, let’s legalize it, let’s legalize sports gambling,” Policastro said unequivocally.

“Yes, let’s legalize it, let’s legalize sports gambling,” Policastro said unequivocally.

However, even though gambling was popular with the delegates they were aware it can also be very detrimental. When Policastro was asked about how to handle potential addiction he said he’d like to see “a kind of recovery or help for people who do get addicted… and we will market how gambling can be addictive.”

With all these talks and ideas in mind now, the delegates will now turn to voting, ultimately deciding how big of a factor the gambling stance will be for the success of the candidates and, in turn, which governor candidates they think will heed their hopes.

If none of their potentially lucrative campaigns are shot down by the legionnaires before anything can come of the potential legislation, then the door should be wide open for the policy makers.
