On Thursday afternoon, Michael Stanford of Shuck City was arrested for assault after flinging a rubber band at Chevy McCoy of Wiehe City.

The incident occurred early afternoon on Thursday, leading to Stanford’s consequent arrest.

“I did finalize [the complaint] as assault,” said McCoy. McCoy claimed the projectile hit him in the head, but it did not injure him enough to warrant a case for any higher charges.

Stanford claims some of the facts of the case are not truthful.

“McCoy is arresting me because he says that I allegedly [flung a rubber band at] him…while he’s on duty when he wasn’t even working at that time,” said Stanford, during his arrest.

“McCoy is arresting me because he says that I allegedly [flung a rubber band at] him…while he’s on duty when he wasn’t even working at that time,” said Stanford, during his arrest.

Later, McCoy revealed the projectile did not make contact with him, contradicting his first statement. McCoy’s side of the lawsuit was dropped by the court.

However, the counter lawsuit made by Stanford is set to be processed during the afternoon of Friday, June 13, 2025. McCoy does not know what grounds the countersuit is on.

“I’m getting counter-sued, and I got the wrong information,” said McCoy.

Instead of receiving information from his prosecutor, McCoy was told his case was dropped by the President of the Wiehe City Council.

As Chief of Police of Wiehe City, McCoy has reason to believe the countersuit may be based on police brutality claims. The trial is set to take place in the White County Municipal Court, but no time or date has been given by the White County Clerk of Courts.
