Overwhelming Business at the Bank During Buckeye Boys State

After opening on Wednesday, the bank at the American Legion Buckeye Boys State (ALBBS) has quickly become the financial engine behind the fast-paced economy of the simulated state government. However, the important role they play also comes with an overwhelming surge in business.

From the moment the bank opened its doors, lines of delegates stretched across the halls within the building. Delegates waited their turn in line to complete various tasks that have been issued to them. The demand has far outpaced what was expected, leading to lengthened wait times for delegates.

Waiting in the long lines can really put delegates in a time crunch. Jesse Kujawa of Bishop City stated that waiting in the long lines at the bank makes him “anxious to get back to my job.” For Kujawa and many other delegates, this has left them with a predicament on whether or not they should return to their jobs.

The bank has seen an overwhelming number of delegates attempting to obtain mortgages, deposit checks, or simply pay taxes. Akash Joshi of Wiehe City, president of the bank, made mention that it has been “really busy”, but the bank workers have been able to “work through it quickly, efficiently, and I think now the process is pretty streamlined.”

Despite the initial chaos, most delegates are understanding of the process. “Sometimes they’re a little slow with what they’re doing, but they’re all new to it just like I am, so it’s understandable.” said Kujawa.
With every dark side, there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

“Our first setup wasn’t as efficient as we liked,” said Joshi. Since then, Joshi believes “[the bank] adapted, we switched it up, and we’d be able to get mortgages in and out in under five minutes.”

While the bank has been significantly busy the past several days, there are times when the rush will die down. Joshi commented that the busiest times throughout the day are “definitely in the morning” or “during lunch.”

As the week progresses, eyes will be on whether the bank can catch up and restore some financial calm here at ALBBS.
